At the Cardiff, Wales stop of Beyonce’s Renaissance tour, police scanned the faces of 60,000 concertgoers to identify those who committed “priority offenses,” according to the South Wales Police.
The police made no arrest data available as of press time. For comparison, though, we’ll share the arrest rate from previous facial recognition actions by South Wales.
Police officials scanned the faces of 108,540 attendees across two popular events (rugby match and motor speedway event) and netted two arrests from that operation.
"They're violating the privacy of thousands of people to make only potentially one or two very minor arrests," Katie Scott, a lawyer with human rights organization Liberty, told BBC News.
