Putting DINT on pause this week

Rest in peace Sonya Massey

Today’s podcast is a short message from me about why I’m taking a short break from news coverage today and in the coming week. I desperately need to recover from the barrage of negative news stories emerging this summer.

I plan on disconnecting from media (but how though?) for the coming week and watch my favorite track and field stars do their thing at the Olympics. It goes against my nature to walk away from topics I’m genuinely curious about. It’s a struggle when those topics involve murder, and the murder of someone who looks like you, who comes from your background, and who holds the same beliefs as you.

A police deputy responding to a 9-1-1 call for help from Sonya Massey, murdered her by shooting her in the face as she held a pot near her stove as she was cooking. It is unfathomable. While we’ve seen stories like this play out before, I’m not steeled against this kind of story. I really do need a moment. So if you’ll please excuse me, I’m taking a break this week to heal. I’m praying I”ll be ready to face the news cycle with fresh eyes next week.

Long live accountability journalism. - L
